I Won’t Change My Hair At All is an empowering book about self-esteem and self-image. This book is about four young friends who wish they had hair like one another and cannot understand why they are different. The characters come from four different backgrounds: Asian, African American, Caucasian and Hispanic/Spanish. The four friends meet to play and realize that all wanted different hair. The young girls question their mothers about their difference and are told that God made them all beautiful and that He never makes mistakes.
I Won’t Change My Hair At All is for parents looking for books that are Christian based. This book is inspirational, motivational and empowering for young girls. The author does a wonderful job at expressing that we should love our differences and embrace them. All the beauty magazines and the images of beauty we see today have us all wanting to be similar and have similar looks but in the need for assimilation and similarity we lose what makes us beautiful as an African- American or as an Asian-American. Look at one family for instance near you: two children both daughters. Look at their features, look at how they act and then remember this book. You will see what I mean.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and I believe that any person whether they have daughters or not will love it if you are a parent. And if you are a daughter or are expecting a daughter, this is a good book to have in your library.
This book was provided by the author for review purposes only.
This was a cute and much needed children’s book that speaks to our little girls all over the world. In a society that fixates on such a narrow image of beauty, our little girls need to know that they are beautiful just the way they are. I read a quote somewhere, saying, “It’s so much to be a girl!” It definitely is, but with this book, maybe it doesn’t have to be!
Kool Minds for Girls is a journal to encourage and inspire young girls. This journal is easy to follow and helpful to use. This journal incorporates the Bible to help facilitate a better frame of mind. The author includes a biblical verse for each day of the week along with a set of ten questions. At the end of the book is a section called Design Yourself. In this section you can draw the way you see yourself and who you want to look like.
I really did like this book because it is interactive with young girls going through puberty, issues, self-image, or things they may be struggling with. It also has what I like to call the A.M. AFFIRMATION. This is the affirmation that you say in the morning to start your day off so that you know that you are worth something
For all of those parents, educators, counselors, churches, and teen groups this will be a great activity to use. For all of those girls who are struggling with their self-image and or worth this is a book for you. I highly recommend this book to parents that have daughters or goddaughters. This would be a great gift with activity and a great mind opener.
This is a great Christian journal for young girls.
